The adoption of the member of parliament’s proposed amendments would result in an investigator being able to question the country's leader despite the leader's wishes. In the opinion of Mr. Palauskas, this would implement the spirit of the law and ensure the principles of the rule of law, justice and equality. Otherwise, he said, it is a paradoxical situation that the President has the unique right to remain silent about circumstances he or she knows about which would help solve a case, violating the principle outlined in the Lithuanian constitution that all persons are equal before the law.
