The Lithuanian Parliament confirmed a new procedure for establishing political parties after adopting a new version of laws on political party and political campaign funding and funding control. Earlier, at least one thousand founders were needed to create a party, but now at least two thousand will be needed.
The Lithuanian Parliament separated the issues of financing political parties from the regulation of political campaign financing.
A notable requirement states that if the total sum of political party membership fee exceeds 1200 Litas per year, the party member will be required to declare assets and income. Also, the total sum for a political party membership fee cannot exceed ten percent of a member’s income from the previous year.
