On January 14th at the premises of the Lithuanian parliament, the ruling Social Democrats met with the opposition leaders from the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats and allegedly discussed support for the adoption of the euro. There were various public discussions about whether the secretive meeting was not at all about support of the euro but about the issue of a new coalition; the Lithuanian labour party, current coalition partners of the Social Democrats, were left out of the meeting. However, members of the party in interviews did not seem at all afraid of losing their place in power. Labour party member Saulius Bucevičius said that if by removing people from their posts they get better results, then he will be the first to resign from his post as Rural Affairs Committee Chairman.
