Valdemar Tomasevski on Tuesday in Strasbourg during a presentation on the results of Lithuania's presidency of the EU council said that, unfortunately, the recent scandalous events in Lithuania against minorities have left an overall bad impression. He urged the EU Council and the Commission to respond to repression of ethnic minorities in the EU territory. Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite rejected the criticism from the member of the European Parliament, arguing that no international body has established that Lithuania violated international standards for the protection of national minorities, and accused Mr. Tomasevski of attempting to discredit Lithuania internationally.
