Leader of the Parliament Loreta Graužinienė has asserted that it has been discussed with trade unions that the country's Tripartite Council should launch a debate on raising the minimum salary to 1,500 LTL per month. She indicated that the unions had informed her that they would raise the issue at the next meeting of the council. However, the leader failed to answer the question as to when the minimum salary would be increased. Next year's draft budget does not include such an increase. And Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičiaus has expressed his view that any such decision must be taken seriously.
