Lithuanian Dairy products are not flying off the shelves in shopping centers

With the continuing restriction on Lithuanian dairy exports to Russia, the major supermarket chains in Lithuania say they are not aware of greater than usual demand and sales. However, some retail chains are not hiding the fact that they have received offers from suppliers to sell production that was intended for the Russian market, though it has not happened yet.

Encouragement to support Lithuanian dairy manufacturers and buy their products more actively have appeared on the Internet and social networks, but the retailers have not noticed the effect yet. Rimi Lietuva Public Relations Manager Raminta Stanaitytė-Česnulienė told ELTA, "Sales have not changed dramatically. We have not heard any discussion or threats from our suppliers that the prices will quickly rise or fall. We, in any case, try to keep calm and balanced, so that such things are passed on to the buyer as little as possible” .

Retail chain Norfa has not noticed larger changes either.

Communication Manager of Maxima shops Renata Saulytė also confirmed that a higher demand for Lithuanian dairy products has not been observed.

However, as the representative of Maxima noted, several of the country’s major dairy manufacturers have contacted them asking to utilize the surplus production because of the current situation and relationship with Russia. "Helping to utilize means to look for a solution, and perhaps special offers for certain products will be one of those ways. So, in the short term, prices of certain milk products might fall," the representative noted.

According to her, it is logical that the suppliers will ask other sales networks to help utilize the surplus production and not just Maxima.

In general, when speaking about dairy products, Ms. Saulytė said that Lithuanian products are clear leaders, and people like them and use them every day.
