According to Lithuanian Finance Minister Rimantas Šadžius, optimizing Lithuania's civil service is a necessity. He says that the end of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union is going to be a very appropriate time for this.
In the Minister’s opinion, the functions carried out by state institutions should be reviewed, and some of them should be done away with, while others should not be carried out in the same way as before.
Mr. Šadžius has not given numbers on how many civil servants would leave their posts and said that it is an open question. However, he added that it is clear that this issue will be touched upon in January or February.
The Finance Minister has stressed that if the number of civil servants is reduced, it will be done only within the framework of the law. According to him, this means that after paying all severance pay, practically no money will be saved in 2014, and the effect will only show in 2015.
The life of civil servants is not easy at all…
