Minister of Education and Science and member of the Lithuanian Labour Party Dainius Pavalkis has made a statement that the preparation of specialists at both Šiauliai University and Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences is of low quality.
According to the Minister, such universities should not exist in the country.
He claims that this year Šiauliai University accepted many freshmen whose average mark was significantly lower than of those who were accepted by Šiauliai Community College. He said that the situation at the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences is similar.
The minister added criticism of the current autonomy of universities, which supposedly allows schools of higher education “to do whatever they want.”
