On the last day of its autumn session the Lithuanian parliament decided not to consider the bill of the controversial Law on National Minorities, which offers a return to the revisions of the law for ethic minorities from the beginning of Lithuania's current period of independence. According to Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė, the Parliament would violate the Constitution if it adopted the National Minorities Act backed by legislation in force before 1992. Meanwhile, Valdemar Tomaševskis of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania is taking the position that the old version of the law would be appropriate until a new Law on National Minorities was enacted; it is prepared, but has so far failed to find the approval of the government.
