Sculptor Rytas Jonas Belevičius believes that by removing Soviet sculptures from Vilnius's Green Bridge, Lithuania would liberate themselves from the shackles of Soviet ideology, as it is ideological art, an idol of the religion of communism. Meanwhile, historian Alvydas Nikžentaitis thinks that in removing such sculptures Lithuania would be acting worse than the Soviets, who left Vytis on the Gates of Dawn, ignoring the fact that it was contrary to their ideology. As a compromise, he suggested the Genocide and Resistance Museum post a plaque on the disputed sculpture and make the bridge an open-air museum.
