President Dalia Grybauskaite has been included in the list of candidates for the European Commission (EC) Chair in Brussels, but the Lithuanian presidential election period, which coincides with negotiations regarding the top positions in Europe, reduces her chances of being chosen. The name of the Lithuanian leader has recently been mentioned among the center-right candidates to lead the European Union's executive body, after the term of the current European Commission ends in October. The center-right European People's Party, which includes the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats, has promised to approve a candidate in March.
However, the majority of Lithuanian politicians and political analysts believe that the country's current president will seek a second term in office.
