On October 9th at 7 pm the innovative Slovenian jazz pianist Kaja Draksler will open the 26th contemporary jazz festival Vilnius Jazz with a solo concert. This will be the first appearance of Slovenian jazz at the festival organized by Piano.lt.
Kaja Draksler studied jazz piano at the Prins Claus Conservatory of Hanze University Groningen in the Netherlands and is currently pursuing a Master's degree in classical composition at the Amsterdam Conservatory .
Ms. Draksler was also able to draw upon improvisational skills in New York with Vijay Iyer and Jason Moran , training with Barry Harris , Hal Galper , John Riley , and other leading figures in contemporary piano . The young artist skillfully exploits her generation’s opportunities to study abroad and have international experience. She already has ten CDs in her discography recorded as the leader, the pianist , the composer or even the conductor of various ensembles.
Critics call her the continuation of the traditions of Thelonious Monk and Cecil Taylor. The viewing public of Vilnius Jazz will be able to get acquainted with Ms. Draksler’s unique style when she introduces compositions from her first solo album recorded this summer.
