The issue came up after it became clear that party leader Roland Paksas would not be able to run for president. Petras Gražulis, member of parliament from the party, has expressed his confidence that Mr. Mazuronis will be the party's candidate, but the Minister of the Environment did not mention that he would run and only asserted that the candidate proposed by the party will be able to not only compete with other candidates, but will even go on to the second round of elections.
