Last year, Lithuania's Equal Opportunities Ombudsman's Office received the greatest number of complaints during its entire history. Most complaints were about government institutions. In most cases investigations were into allegations of discrimination due to social status. Men registered seventy percent of complaints. According to the Ombudsman's office’s Edita Žiobienė, the proliferation of complaints about social status discrimination is explained by the many applications received regarding statutory employee pension cuts.
