President Dalia Grybauskaite said that the Constitutional Court suspended unconstitutional initiatives by the Parliament and that the decision ensures the justice system’s independence from political interest groups. Chair of the Committee on Legal Affairs Julius Sabatauskas said that there is now a question as to whether Lithuania is still a parliamentary republic. Meanwhile, conservative representatives welcomed the Constitutional Court's decision, saying that it will prevent the ruling coalition, who have legal issues, from getting the General Prosecutor “in their pocket”.
