One of Lithuania's most significant achievements during its presidency of the Council of the European Union is completion of negotiations on the 59th EU budget, which will result in a benefit to the country of over forty-four billion LTL in EU support from 2014 to 2020. It is also noteworthy that six major projects are included in the EU budget for the country's energy independence. The extraordinary abilities of Lithuanian negotiators also resulted in agreements about the EU banking union. Progress was also made in European foreign policy, negotiating a free trade agreement with the United States and signing Association Agreements with Moldova and Georgia. Greece will take the baton of the presidency from Lithuania.
