This decision by the Lithuanian Parliament to take another vote on amendments to the law on the Prosecutor General was predicated by President Dalia Grybauskaitė’s decree, presented by Chief Adviser to the President Rasa Svetikaitė, by which the amendments to the Prosecution Service law were returned to the Lithuanian Parliament for repeated consideration. The President thinks that the law’s general provision stating that the Prosecutor General may be dismissed by a decision of the Lithuanian Parliament is incompatible with the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania.
